Time: 10:00 AM —4:00 PM
Location: McColl Center

Following its inaugural public intake session in April 2026, AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY returns to the McColl Center for a second public intake session on Friday, June 19, 2026 (Juneteenth).

Intake hours will take place from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2–4 p.m.

The registry invites individuals in possession of objects commonly categorized as “Black Americana” — including figurines, kitchenware, advertisements, novelty objects, collectibles, and other racialized memorabilia — to voluntarily place such materials into a developing archival registry through a formalized intake and documentation process.

Participants who contribute objects will complete a deed-based transfer in exchange for a limited-edition carbon-copy print functioning as both an artwork and archival record.

AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY operates as an archival registry examining the circulation, preservation, and stewardship of objects tied to racialized representation in the United States.

During intake sessions, a representative of AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY will be present on site to facilitate documentation and object transfer procedures.

The second intake session intentionally coincides with Juneteenth, the federal holiday commemorating June 19, 1865 — the date enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were informed of their emancipation more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

For AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY, Juneteenth marks both liberation and delayed recognition. The intake registry considers how objects, histories, and cultural memory continue to move through generations in similarly fragmented and unresolved ways.

Rather than allowing such materials to remain privately exchanged, discarded, or detached from historical context, AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY seeks to place them into a growing archive intended for future presentation within museum, university, and educational spaces.

The June intake session expands upon the first public registry held in April 2026, which generated significant public discussion surrounding preservation, disposal, historical accountability, and the ethics of collecting racially charged objects.
